Compostela Valley Province

Land Area and Political Subdivision

Republic Act No.8470 signed on January 30, 1998 created Compostela Valley Province. With a total land area of 4,454.82 sq.km., it has eleven municipalities and a total of 235 Barangays. The Municipality of Nabunturan is the capital town. The Municipalities of Compostela, Maragusan, Monkayo, Montevista and New Bataan constitute the First District, while the Municipalities of Laak, Mabini, Maco, Mawab, Nabunturan and Pantukan comprise the Second District.

Location

The province of Compostela Valley is situated in the mid-eastern portion of Mindanao, It is bounded by Agusan del Sur on the North, Davao Oriental on the East and South, Davao Gulf on the Southwest, and Davao del Norte on the West and Northwestern portions.

Geography and Climate

The southwestern portion starts with a coastal plan rising gently from the Davao Gulf, developing into rolling hills and finally into the mountains in the inland lying area. The rainy season occurs between May to January with pronounce maximum rainfall from October to December. These conditions enabled the province to make its mark as a producer of agri-based produces,. But the area is better known for its gold, copper and other mineral deposits.
