Davao del Norte Province
Land Area and Political Subdivision
In 1998, republic Acts No. 8470,8472 divided Davao province into Compostela Valley and Davao del norte provinces and created the latter’s two component cities, namely: Island Garden City of Samal and Tagum City. The province has eight municipalities, namely: Asuncion, carmen, Kapalong, New Corellqa, Panabo, Sto. Tomas, Talaingod and Braulio Dujali. Its present land area totals 2,936.52 sq.km.
Location
Davao del Norte is located at the southeastern part of Region XI. It is bounded on the North by Agusan del Sur; Bukidnon on the Northeast; Davao City on the West; Davao Gulf on the South and the Province of Compostela Valley on the East.
Geography and Climate
The province’s terrain is generally characterized by rugged, mountainous areas on the eastern part, moderately steeply sloping on the western part and wide alluvial plains on the central lowland areas. Its climate is characterized by unpronounced dry and wet seasons. Being located south of the typhoon belt and naturally protected by its mountain ranges, occurrence of typhoon is minimal. These favorable conditions contributed to making Davao del Norte one of the biggest banana-producing and exporting areas in Mindanao.
