Land Area and Political Subdivision

Davao Oriental has a total land area of 526,446 has. Representing 16.26% of the total land area of Region XI and 1.72% of the total land area of the Philippines. Composed of 11 municipalities and 182 barangays. It is divided into 2 districts. The first districts consist of the municipalities of Baganga (growth center). Manay, caraga, Cateel and Boston while the Second District is comprised of the municipalities of Mati (growth center). Taragona, Lupon, Banay-Banay, San Isidro and Governor Generoso.

Location

Davao Oriental lies on the southeastern section of Mindanao. Bounded by the Pacific Ocean in the East; Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur on the North; Compostela Valley on the West and the Davao Gulf and the Celebes Sea on the South.

Geography and Climate

The province is characterized by extensive mountain ranges which makes it typhoon free. It has an uneven distribution of plateaus, swamps and extensive low land along shorelines facing mthe Pacific Ocean. Its climate is characterized by a short dry season and pronounced rainy season. Currently the biggest coconut-producing province in the DIDP, it is also endowed with various metallic and non-metallic mineral resources. The most abundant of which is nickel ore. The province geography and climate make it a potential tourist destination.
