Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS)

Land Area and Political Subdivision

The enactment of Republic Act No. 8471 created the Island Garden City of Samal as component city of the Province of Davao del Norte. It has three districts Babak, Samal and Kaputian. It has a total land masss of 30,130 has. The Island is 34 kms. in width with a continuous coastline of about 116 kms.

Location

The Island City is strategically located at the heart of Davao Gulf and is accessible by ferry boats from the mainland of Davao City. The Sasa port of Davao City is less than a kilometer from Samal acrross the Pakiputan Channel. The Island is now the favored destination for rest, recreation and relaxation both for domestic and international tourists.

Geography and Climate

It has rainfall evenly distributed throughout the year. It is characterized by beautiful beaches and gently rolling terrain reaching a maximum elevation of 500 meters on the eastern flank of the island. The City’s geography, climate, location and its being an island, put it in a key position to play a vital role in the trade and tourism development off the BIMP-EAGA.
