DIDP Assists ARMM Social Fund

The group of Lanao del Sur Province during the workshop on Team Building facilitated by Ms. Julynda H. Saragena.of Davao del Sur

The “Assistance for Enhancement of Operation and Maintenance (O&M) for Strategic Regional Infrastructure (SRI) Component for ARMM Social Fund for Peace and Development Project (ASFPD)” funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was developed to improve the O&M of SRI facilities (e.g. Small Water Supply) constructed under ASFPD.

This will be done through the conduct of workshops to enhance the operations plan and strategies for increased utilization of the facilities. JICA and ASFPD contracted the Institute for Socio-Economic Development Initiatives (ISFI), an outreach arm of Ateneo de DavaoUniversity (AdDU) headed by Ms. Jocelyn E. Cabo, to facilitate the series of workshops.

In view of DIDP’s experience under the Local Governance and Rural Empowerment Project (LGREP), we were requested by JICA to provide the training on BAWASA Formation for O&M of the Small Water Supply (SWS) component of the SRI facilities, specifically the two (2) SWS systems constructed under the project, namely: Upper Pugaan Level II Water Supply System in Ditsaan-Ramain Municipality, Lanao del Sur Province and Barangay Kulape Level II Water Supply System in Panglima Sugala Municipality, Tawi-Tawi Province. The training workshop on O&M for Small Water Supply was held last January 30 to February 3, 2012 at the Apo View Hotel, Davao City, which was attended by LGU officials of Lanao del Sur and Tawi-Tawi provinces, Marawi City and Panglima Sugala Municipality.

For this training, the DIDP formulated the training modules, reading materials and Power Point presentations to be utilized in the training workshop. The DIDP also mobilized the Project Management Units of Davao del Sur and Davao del Norte Provinces, capacitated under LGREP, to be the resource persons on the following topics:
