GIS Assistance to DIDP member LGUs Continues
The Geographic Information System (GIS) Unit of the DIDP PMO continues to give technical assistance to its member LGUs who requested services such as Training on Introduction to ArcGIS, Control Point Establishment for Irrigation and Road Surveys, and Topographical Surveys.
On August 31, September 1-2, 12-16, 19-20, 2011, the DIDP-GIS team composed of Engr. Michael Nacpil, Noel Dacanay and Bienvenido Galang Jr., assisted the Province of Davao del Sur with the 4 km. road profiling survey for its road concreting project under the Department of Agrarian Reform at Brgy. New Ilocos, Municipality of Magsaysay. The DIDP-GIS Team also gave hands-on training on operating the newly acquired equipment of the LGU such as the Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) and Total Station. The LGU Survey Team of Davao del Sur is composed of personnel from the Provincial Planning and Development Office and is headed by Engr. Gina Chua.
Technical services were extended anew to the Province of Davao del Sur as they requested for the topographic survey of the 51 hectare-site of their proposed Pabahay Program at Brgy. Bato, Sta. Cruz. The survey was conducted on October 25-27, November 2- 4, 2011. Part of the services provided by the DIDP-GIS Unit is the conduct of GIS software trainings. Since there have been a lot of movement in the GIS personnel trained by the DIDP way back in the year 2007 due to various reasons such as reassignment to other departments or resignation, LGUs have been requesting to capacitate their new GIS staff. To revive the GIS Unit of the Island Garden City of Samal, Engr. Ana Lea Zapanta, City Planning and Development Coordinator and DIDP Coordinator, with the approval of City Mayor Hon. Aniano P. Antalan, requested for the training of its newly hired GIS personnel. The 3-day training on the Introduction to ArcGIS was conducted last October 5-7, 2011 at CGSO Conference Hall. The participants came from different departments like the City Engineering Office, City Planning and Development Office and City Assessor's Office.
To support the acquisition of the Province of Davao del Norte of a DGPS Promark 100 model that can be used for its road mapping, surveying, control points establishment and other activities, the DIDP conducted a DGPS Training on December 7-9, 2011 at Bulwagan, Government Center, Mankilam, Tagum City. The activity was participated by the GIS Unit Staff of the Provincial Planning and Development Office.
More technical transfers are coming up for this year as part of the DIDP PMO services to its member LGUs.
